Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How long does the inspection take?
A: It takes approximately 2-3 hours

Q: Is the dog harmed by the molds
A: No, the dog does not smell enough of the mold to be harmed. Unlike humans living in the environment 24 hours a day, the mold dog is only exposed to the mold for a few minutes at most. Dogs have a unique purging ability for scent that humans just do not possess. This “purging ability” removes the mold odors to permit the dog to continue the search.

Q: How long does it take to train a mold dog?
A: It takes about 800 to 1000 hours of training for a dog to accurately detect mold.

Q: What kind of mold does the dog detect?
A: The mold dog will alert to 18 of the most common toxic molds.

Q: Does a Mold Detection K-9 need ongoing testing and evaluations to essentially be “calibrated”?
A: Yes. The mold detection K-9 needs to be weekly trained on the mold samples and perform quarterly retesting and yearly recertification.

Q: What does the inspection include?
A: A full inspection of the building including the exterior, interior and basement of the building, documented with a digital photo in problem areas. We also take moisture and humidity readings throughout the house. We will conclude the investigation with a detection K-9 if necessary. A summary of the findings, with photo documentation will be sent to you with the lab report of findings.

Q: What qualifications do we have?
A: Both the handler and the dog have been certified to WDDO standards. The handler also receives training through MICRO Inc. as a Property Mold Specialist.
